FAQs about Girl Scout Troops

How often do troops meet?
The most successful troops meet either weekly or biweekly
 
Where do troops meet?
In the North Redondo/Hermosa Beach area girls typically meet at one of two Scout Houses - one at Perry Park and one at Anderson Park.  Other troops meet at their schools and places of worship.
 
How much does it cost?
The annual membership dues is $12 per girl.  This money is used by the Girl Scouts of the USA to provide insurance and develop program for girls.
 
What about troop dues?
Troops collect dues from the members to help sustain and support the troop.  On average, a troop will collect $1 from each troop member at each meeting.
 
Do we have to have a uniform?
Girls wear a sash or vest for their insignia.  Additional uniform components are available and lend to the identity of the group.
 
What kind of activities do the girls do?
Girls will participate in a variety of activities based on their age and skill.  Each experience for them should age and experience appropriate for the group.  Some of the activities girl do are camping, traveling, science, art, tours, and sports.
 
Who are the girls in my daughter's troop?
The girls in the troop will be girls like your scout.  They will likely be from the same grade.  They will not necessarily attend the same school
 
Who are the leaders for the troop?
The leaders are generally parents like you.  They are volutneers.  They have been trained by our council to hold troop meetings and keep your girls safe, while having fun.  Each troop leade and co-leader agree to under go a criminal background check as a condition of their volunteering.
